Dick Tracy “Captured” in Bronze… Statue Dedication April 11th at 1 PM!

The statue will be based on Dick Locher’s sketch.
The statue of iconic crime fighter Dick Tracy will debut April 11th at 1:00 P.M. as the 35th piece of public art in the Century Walk project. The 9-foot bronze sculpture, done by Tracy cartoonist, Dick Locher, will adorn the Riverwalk ( www.napervilleriverwalk.com ) at the Naperville, Illinois Township building, just east of City Hall.
Illuminated under a vintage streetlight, the full color bronze statue depicts Dick Tracy receiving an urgent call on his two-way wrist radio. Permission to recreate the Chicago cartoon legend, created in 1931 by Chester Gould, was granted to the city by Tribune Media Services.
In 2006, Dick Locher was commissioned by the State of Illinois Bureau of Tourism to design their poster. His “Not All Heroes Wear Tights” poster design features a dramatic image of Dick Tracy in his trademark yellow fedora and trench coat, talking on his 2-way wrist radio.
In conjunction with the soon- to- be installed statue, the Chester Gould-Dick Tracy Museum Foundation is offering 4 of the limited edition Illinois Tourism posters each autographed by Dick Locher.
